Chattahoochee, FL (October 1, 2005)
Happy Autumn to everyone! Glad to see everyone after such a long hot summer. Our first fall show was held at a new location in Gadsden County, Florida. Elmon "Lee" Garner, City Manager of Chattahoochee, hosted its first car and truck show at River Landing Park along the banks of the Apalachicola River. Although the calendar said October, the thermometer registered August. We had a decent showing for a first time show of 51 cars, trucks and bikes, and according to Lee, we are definitely coming back again next year. We enjoyed seeing all the locals come out to admire the cream of the crop vehicles that participated. There was quite a bit of traffic all day, including Derrick Price, the Gadsden County Commissioner. Because we had a beautiful view of the river, I think that a few more guys and gals will be bringing their fishing rods next time around! We sure enjoyed seeing the strong showing of the Tallahassee Streetrodders. They held their 50/50 drawing for the scholarship for the automotive department at Lively School for some young man in need. being that our son Michael is using his learned skills from Lively in the Army, we support this cause in full. The winner walked away with $110.00. Thanks for everyone who donated!
For those of you that stayed at home, you missed out on some incredibly unique and beautiful vehicles. What a classy group of participants we had. Don Muller's 2005 Ford GT had everyone's jaws dropping. His interesting documentation is worth reading. Helen and Russ Brooks brought their newly acquired 1957 Plymouth Belvedere "Rose" to the show. The twin sister car is sitting at home, and Russ mentioned that if anyone that knows of any more sibling Belvederes to let him know. He has a new home waiting for them! We have a new addition to our traditional special trophies that we hand out. Because of the changes in our gas prices, we know for all of us that it is an additional expense now to participate in these shows. We now honor two recipients the "Gas Hog" trophy, along with a ten dollar reward that exemplify either a long distance or true gas hog vehicle. Rich Coleman and Logan Rose were our first winners for this year. We appreciate all of you to still support the sport in spite of the situation at hand. Our Miss Confetti Award went out to Audra Chapman, and our Best Kid Award was received by Carson Hatchett. Our special Hot Wheels Award went to Mr. Ethan Branch. Thanks to the City of Chattahoochee and all of the supporting vendors for a wonderful day in the park. We know we are looking forward to returning to the Riverfront next year! Next week we are traveling to Moultrie, Georgia, for our second year downtown. There will be goodie bags, all day long live entertainment including "Elvis." Please pre-register online for a fast entry. See you next week!
