First Annual Veteran's Day Car and Truck Show

Cordele, GA (November 13, 2004)

Before sharing with you the spectacular day we had on Saturday, November 13th at the Veteran's Park in Cordele, GA, we at Confetti's want to take the opportunity to thank every one of you that attended or sponsored any one of our car shows this year, especially Greg and Tammy Gilmer, who privately funded this event. Your support and love of the classics is what keeps us driven to try to give you the most fun, best trophies, and great times with each and every car show that we do. Your continued imput is always welcome. Don't forget to join us at our banquet on Saturday, December 4, at the Golden Corral in Bainbridge, GA. You don't have to bring your cars, but please bring yourselves!

Our First Annual Veteran's Day Show would not have been a reality at all if it weren't for the private funding of Alice and James Parks, and Bobby and Darla Gilmer. All of us have a great devotion and respect for all of our Veteran's, and it had been a dream for Bob to have a special show to honor them. The Parks and the Gilmers shared that dream with Bob, and with TREMENDOUS work and financial commitment from everyone, we all made it possible. Everyone who attended last Saturday was touched by all the personal military displays. Active duty Douglas Scull and Chris Miller, both from Ft. Rutgers, Alabama shared their poignant photos from their tour of duty in Iraq, along with a spectacular showing of military items. The two of them were honored with the "Best Military Display" award. The top winner for the motorcycle group was Bill Bohnstedt, with his authentic display of a Dnept MT-11 motorcycle complete with machine gun, crumbling wall and a "Molotov cocktail". Great effort! We also want to thank Don Gleaton for the long journey with his 1960 Rambler. He drove a long way to visit us. Thanks, Don. We not only got to sing "Happy Birthday" to pretty Miss Courtney Hays, but we also crowned her Miss Confetti, too. Ricky Nipper was our favorite "Hot Wheeler," and Master Baylor Boone won "Best Kid" award. Because we concentrated on the awards for the military, we did not have a club participation award, but it surely would have gone to the tremendous showing of the Cordele Cruisers. That are always a tight knit group that knows how to have fun. Thanks, all, for supporting your fellow cruisers!

Anyone who attended this show was amazed at the Cream of the Crop vehicles that entered to be judged. Our judges had one of the most difficult of chores to decide which one of the 107 vehicles that were present to deserve the two 71/2 foot tall trophies for the Best Overall. Everyone had the branch of service that they chose to honor on the top of their personal trophy. Although this was an incredible car, truck and bike show, we never forgot the real reason for holding this event. From the special invocation and National Anthem in the beginning, to the touching recognition to all our Vets and active duty personnel at the end made this chilly day worth attending. The Parks and Gilmers spared nothing to make this a wonderful show. From the dash plaques, the goodie bags, incredible door prizes, and the delicious hot food from the vendors, to the photo shoot under the flags overlooking Lake Blackshear impressed all who was there. Anyone interested in getting their photo of their car can link on to the e-mail address below to contact Mr. Parks. There were plenty of spectators at this show that enjoyed the vehicles, the entertainment of the great music from DJ Confetti Bob, and the remote controlled airplane show that was going on at the next field. For any of you that missed this show, please make a special note on your calendar for November 2005. We all plan on making this dream come true a continued event for years to come.
