Were you at our show last year? Did you freeze? Well, this year was a complete turnaround and we had the most amazingly picture perfect day for a car show. The background of Lake Blackshear, balmy winds, a beautiful park, and 132 of the most incredible vehicles made for an awesome day. We never forget why we have this show, though, which is to thank all of our men and women that have served in the military for our freedom. The folks that shared their military displays brought even more honor to the spirit that it was intended, and for that we thank you, too. Our sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Greg Gilmer, and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Gilmer of East Coast Locomotive Services worked incredibly hard to make this show a success. Along with Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Parks, they traveled through three states visiting various car shows, television and radio appearances to get the word out. The two brothers work so well together. It was a pleasure seeing them all day directing traffic, answering questions and supporting the cause of honoring our Veterans. All the wives contributed just as hard, helping us at the registration and doing the door prizes that they worked hard at getting from different sponsors to share with you all. Confetti's is proud to call them our friends. We want to thank Gene Malcolm, who was generous enough to give everyone free pontoon boat rides on the lake all morning, M&E T-shirts, who were on hand to capture the moment, and thanks to the good eats that were found at Oglethorpe Bar-B-Que to serve us all day long. We also want to thank the generosity of our favorite Marine, Bill Hunter for his donation of the 50/50 to our banquet. But most of all, we all want to thank the Georgia State Parks for sharing the Veteran's State Park with us for the second year. Their hospitality was by far the most incredible. Even though the park was full, they found a place for us to stay and was most gracious about it. Thanks, Rod, and thanks to your wonderful staff for taking care of us.
We at Confetti's, the Gilmers, the Parks, and everyone that attended the show were honored to be in the presence of Luther Avery OakesJr., whom we had a special honorarium and plaque ceremony. We also honored his lovely wife, Joyce, with a dozen roses. It was touching to see the pride that he had for serving his country, and it was such a pleasure for us to make sure he received that special honor he so rightfully deserved. For a full detail of his history, click here: (L.A. Oakes' Story).
If you attended this show, we are sure you noticed some of the changes that are forthcoming for the 2006 year. First is our Confettimobile, the golf cart to assist anyone that needs a helping hand getting somewhere. Second is our new Confetti trailer. In five years we have grown so much, that we just simply needed more room. It helps provide a much needed stage and will be great for all kinds of weather. We also introduced our 2006 T-shirts. They will be on sale at the banquet and all 2006 car shows. They are $20.00 for s-xl, and $23.00 for xxl-xxxl. They come in black and light blue. (Sandman, it's for you!). Look for them next year! But the brightest addition to our staff is our Confetti Girls. You will be able to meet them at the banquet, and all of our shows next year. Misty and Christy will be on hand to help with the registration and handing out trophies. Make them feel welcome and introduce yourselves to them when you meet them at our shows.
Our special Hot Wheels Award went out to Kenny Blanchard, our Best Kid Award was given to James Lee Cobb, and pretty Abby Welch received our Miss Confetti Award. David Gustafson from Robins Air Force Base, GA, won the Best Military Display, and it was an honor to have the special Marine Truck brought by Bill Hunter from Plant City, Florida. Thanks, guys. We at Confetti's want to give a special tribute and thanks for the efforts of Alice and Jimmy Parks. You are terrific folks, and your tireless efforts and time are greatly appreciated. Please Join us at our banquet on December 3 at the Golden Corral, Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA at 5:30 pm. We are honoring Greg and Darla Gilmer for their first place standing as Streetrodders of the Year Award. Hope to see all of you there.
Both of us (Bob and Catie) wish all of you a safe and Blessed Holiday season, and look forward to a great season next year. We will be posting our 2006 shows very soon, so keep checking our web page for the upcoming year. Happy New Year to you!
