Donalsonville, GA (October 21, 2006)
We at Confetti's have done this wonderful car show for five years, and for all five years the weather has been picture perfect. Brenda Broome and the Chamber of Commerce always pulls out the red carpet for us, and I know personally, it is one of my favorite shows to do. The parade was longer and better than ever. Like last year, we entered our courtesy golf cart in the parade, and handed out both candy and festival beads. Our two Confetti girls tagged along behind to help give everyone something. Our newest addition, Kerry, did a fine job for her first show. She is a student at Chippola Community College studying nursing. Please give her a warm welcome when you see her again. This car show seems to always bring out the best of the area, and today was no exception. The crowd pleaser is always Donalsonville's local boy Bill Dismuke and his Thunderbolt. If you haven't read Bob's article on the history of this vehicle, you need to, because it has a lot of history. This car is one owner, bought by his mom. There are only 50 left in the world. Next time you see Bill, ask him about it! As tradition goes, we have announced our Streetrodder of the Year winners, and they go in this order:
Runner-up : Tim Price
Third Place: Glenn Rudd
Second Place: David Duke
First Place: Bill Dismuke
As a reminder, this isn't about having the fanciest car or most expensive, but it is to honor the person who best represents the love of the sport. Bill attends many shows all over the country and enjoys the camaraderie of other owners of classic cars. He was with us when we had our ice cream shoppe, and sure knows his stuff when it comes to cars. Thank you, Bill and congratulations to being this year's winner. The award ceremony is held on Saturday, December 9th at our banquet at Golden Corral.
We saw a lot of newcomers to this show, and we want to thank another local Donalsonville boy Jay Coachman and his Hummer 2, and Rev. James H. Miller and his Model A Ford. He won a Best Of Class trophy for that entry. David Plunkett had the most incredible MG Midget- I wanted to know how such a big guy fit into that car! We also want to thank the Alabama group: The Sapps, David Plunkett, Joel and Mason Owens, Dustin Thombley, the Williams, the Moores and the Dollars. Mary Dollar turned 29 again today, so we got to present a cake and wish her a happy day! We also want to thank our Ambassador of Confetti's - Clayton Weaver. He loves to volunteer to help us out and do what he can. When we get short-handed, you can always count on our friends to pitch in. This is why we love to do these shows.
I want to extend an apology to all of you - our newest photographer needs a few more lessons, so the ones that are posted are all that came out. If you have some that you took and want posted, just e-mail me and it will get done. Prior to our normal presentations of trophies, we at Confetti's honored Brenda Broome with a plaque thanking her and the Chamber of Commerce for five great years of sponsoring car shows. It was a nice surprise for her, and she seemed very touched. She announced to us we will be back for our sixth year on the third week of October, 2007. Save that date, and we will see you there. Our Little Miss Confetti was won by Brianna Handy Miller (three years old), and our Best Kid was won by Judson Griffin (8 years old). The Two Gas Hog Trophies and $10 dollars each were won by Larry Dollar and Wayne McCook. Thanks again to the wonderful hospitality of the City of Donalsonville, the Chamber of Commerce, the merchants, and all who attended.
Our last show of 2006 is coming up on November 11th. Although this is a car show, it means a lot more to us than that. We take a special salute to our men and women veterans on this car show, and it could not be done without the endless work, finances and support from four individual folks that we have the honor and pleasure to know and call our friends. Bobby and Darla Gilmer and Greg and Tammy Gilmer took it upon themselves to finance the Veteran's Day Car and Truck Show three years ago. They continue to do so without any assistance, and they need to be recognized and thanked when you see them in a couple of weeks. Make sure you note what branch of service you want to honor in the comment section of the pre-registration for the top of your trophy. Don't forget there is the Best Military Display Award, so no points get taken off for displays on this show if they are military related. We strongly recommend you pre-register, because these generous folks are also handing out incredible dash plaques and T-shirts for this show for the first 75 entries. There are already 35 entries, so log on as soon as you can.
