Moultrie, GA (October 8, 2005)
The City of Moultrie, GA hosted our second fall show. The one thing you can count on is the incredible welcome that Moultrie and Amy Johnson does to Confetti's and all the participants of the show. Once again, the streets were blocked off and the only traffic was the long line of visitors that came to admire all the vehicles. Downtown Moultrie also hosted a talented array of dancers and other entertainment throughout the day. The little ones and their daddies that danced together were especially touching. Our favorite "Elvis" Kenn Blankenship was on hand to prove once and for all Elvis will always live on! His hour long performance had the audience glued to the staging area. We had some phenomenal volunteer help from the Boy Scout Troop 410, and the Cub Scout Troop 410. The Boy Scouts had their tent set up all day and served coffee, soda and other sundries for their fund raiser. Colin Hopkins, 11, and Bryce Taylor, 10, helped Confetti's run more smoothly. Their endless energy was supplied by the pocketful of candy they kept in supply from the trunk of the Confetti car. They even offered to get me a stash, because it was free! They were incredibly cute and were a joy to have around. Moultrie Car Show is where we offer the Spectator's Choice Award to donate all the money we raised throughout the year with our yellow bucket for the Lemon-Aid Cancer Research. Jan Rogers won this year with her 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. We were able to give $66.00 to the cause. If you see the yellow bucket, give generously, because this money stays locally. We gave our two "Gas Hog" trophies with each receiving $10.00 to Bobby Gilmer and Jim Shepard. "Sandman" Jim was generous enough to donate his money back to Lemon-Aid. Thanks, Jim!
Our Little Miss Confetti went to a reluctant Ally Johnson (who just woke up from a nap) and our "Best Kid" award went to Dylan Howard. Moultrie's sponsors of this show were also on hand to honor their "Dealership Awards" out to two special entries. Edwards Motors ~ Buick, Pontiac, Olds, GMC, Cadillac, and Daewoo from Moultrie, GA honored Wease Kaylor, from Havana, FL and his 1963 Buick Riviera with a gorgeous crystal vase and Ken Isaacs Chevrolet from Moultrie, GA honored Tom Bailey, from Albany, GA, and his 1968 Chevy C-10 pickup truck with a beautiful trophy. Thanks to the two dealerships for donating their time and money to help put on a great show.
The great thing about the Moultrie show is that the locals also support their events. Last year we had the pleasure of meeting Officer Estrella from the Moultrie Police Department. We talked a bit last year, and he mentioned it was too bad he couldn't enter his police car in the show. I showed him the classifications and told him that he could have if he wanted to. He remembered our conversation, so we had the honor of having his car representing Moultrie's finest this year at no charge. His car won first place in his division. The Honorable David Herndon, won first place in his division with his 1997 Mercedes SL500. Thank you both for your entries! We want to also thank Mike Fuches for his volunteering and hard work all day. Even the President of the Moultrie Association helped hand out our trophies. Hope to see you all again next year. We also had the pleasure of meeting William Harrison and his" Defend America" 2003 Tahoe. He travels all over the US in support of all the military troops. We are trying to talk him in to coming to Cordele this year. He even handed out bibles for both of our children (Mike and Dorothy) that will be heading out to Iraq this winter. We were SO happy to see strangers amongst out midst: Larry and Cil Stevens and Robert Jessie. Larry and Cil have that wonderful Mustang Tribute to their son and Bob has that incredible Ford Fairlane. Thanks for coming, guys, and hope to see you again! One last quick note to everyone -- our sweet Leann (that helps me every show) say a prayer for her daddy for a quick recovery from triple by-pass surgery this past Wednesday.
Don't forget to visit Donalsonville's Harvest Festival next Saturday. We are hosting their FOURTH Car and Truck Show this year. You can enter your car in the parade which starts at 10, but they want you to line up at 9am. Bikes are welcome at all of our shows. The weather is always great and the crowd is always welcoming! See you there!
