Thomasville Rose Festival

Thomasville, GA (April 23, 2005)

Welcome to a new season with us here at Confetti's Car Show Productions! We started this year off with bang in Downtown Thomasville, GA. Although the previous night rain storms and early morning clouds appeared as if they were going to stay, the sun came out and made for the most glorious day for a car show. The City of Thomasville and the Thomasville Police Department (especially Captain Ellis Jackson) were perfect hosts for our show. Our sponsor, CNS Television, was tremendously impressed with the impressive gathering of 171 incredibly beautiful vehicles. Being that it was our first show of 2005, it was great to see old friends, and the opportunity to meet new ones. We also want you to welcome Tim Gibson to our judging staff. He is an independent businessman, specializing in interiors. Check out his information at our new link on our web page.

Thomasville celebrates their City of Roses Festival all week long, and we were glad to be a part of it. The early part of the morning brought on hundreds of runners and their manpower to the streets for their organized run, and the later part of the day brought tons of horsepower to the streets with a fantastic display of cars, trucks and motorcycles of all ages. Classic vehicles, such as Ben Parker’s unique 1949 Willy’s jeep, Frank Cannon’s 1923 T-bucket, Jim Tyson’s1931 Model-A and James Park’s 1928 Model A Roadster brought back nostalgic memories for many whom attended the show. The younger generation loved to see technology and gadgets incorporated in the newer cars, such as Candice Smith’s 199 Dodge Neon, Candice Cooper’s Eclipse and Eugene Witherspoon’s 1998 Elantra. Frank McGlamory entered his beautiful 2003 Honda Valkyrie, which won first place in his division. Mike Greener’s VW bus is always fun to look at, and Nicolette Scott’s 2000 Viper and Logan Birdsong’s Jaguar SS100 kit car were a special treat. The concessions were served in the MOST unusual way, with a transformed VW beetle into a smokehouse built by Raymond Barlow. We honored him with a “participant trophy” for bringing a new definition to “hotrod.” The Jackson clan came in force with five entries, plus one special entry that spells out “future hotrodder” to carry on the tradition. Kaitlyn Jackson entered her “Barbie car,” and won her first trophy.

As many of you are familiar with, Confetti's would not be complete without honoring our special family of children. Captain Jackson and his police force handed out badges all day to deputize to young ones. He also received all the proceeds of the “Spectator's Choice Award” to go to their organization “Shop with Cops” which helps underprivileged children shop with officers in Thomasville to get needed supplies for school that the families normally could not afford. Mr. And Mrs. Jim Price won the votes for that trophy with his 2004 Mustang. We honored our Miss Confetti and Best Kid awards, and Ricky Nipper was honored with our Hot Wheels. Club Participation Trophy went to the Cordele Cruisers, with 12 entrants and was awarded an additional $100 from us to thank them for their support. The Panhandle Ponies came in a VERY close second with 9 cars (and what a great selection of Mustangs we had at this show)! They have another chance to win at our University show, where another $100 will be given to the club with 10 + entrants. The challenge is on!

We want to personally thank Charlene at the department of tourism, and all the merchants of Downtown Thomasville for you support. We love your beautiful shops and always return when we aren't so busy to spend a day shopping. We were invited back again for next year's event, so check our web page frequently to see our updates shows. Remember in two weeks is our Mother's Day Special show at Wallace Chevrolet in Albany, GA. and the following weekend is the Bill Cramer Chevrolet Show, with live music, T-shirts and goodie bags. We will look forward to seeing you there!

Attention all our extended car family friends: We just received a call from Jan Rogers and we wanted to get this information out to you as soon as possible. At the end of our Thomasville car show, while we were packing up we heard a lot of emergency vehicles going past us. Little did we know it was June and Glenn Smith of Altha, FL and their beautiful 57 red Bel-air. We called them this evening, and although very sore, both of them and the other party involved in the car accident are somewhat okay, but there is tremendous damage to the car. June was telling us that they took that car everywhere, and was a labor of love for the both of them. They owned the Bel-air for over 14 years, and as June told us" it was like a member of the family was gone". They both wanted to let you know they will try to restore it to it's original condition, and will miss all of you until then. Bob and I admired that car tremendously, and they won many Best of Show and Best of Class trophies. More importantly, we consider them our friends, and are very concerned about their recuperation. Keep them in your prayers as they get better. I received permission to print their address so that you can send them get well cards and she even promised "After" photos of the accident. We promised each other to keep in touch, and we at Confetti's in turn will keep you up to date on their recovery.
