Thomasville, GA (June 11, 2005)
The ducks came out today to celebrate the last show of the spring
season. Although the weather was soaking and the clouds were gloomy, we
never witnessed such a festive crowd such as we did at Thomasville. Everyone
congregated together, listening to great music such as "Riding the Storm
Out," and "Listen to the Raindrops Falling," playing cards, bingo, dominoes
and just sharing good conversation. Once again, David Mills, General Manager
of Thomasville Sales, and his staff showed all of our participants their
generous hospitality. The time they spend to move all their show cars for
us, plus accessibility to an air-conditioned facility (which came in handy
for our bingo game) to the free coffee and donuts are greatly appreciated by
all. We were glad to see all the drive-in and pedestrian traffic that the
car show brought, in spite of the rain. We appreciated the fellowship of
all that attended, and were very impressed at the size of the turnout. We
had a lot of fun watching the family of rubber duckies travel from puddle to
puddle to admire the 39 die-hard vehicles that came out during a tropical
storm. Clayton Weaver even rescued one that was just about to get stepped
on. I am sure the family is grateful. The greatest part of running car
shows is having the time to listen to the stories that folks have to tell,
and where they are from and what they are doing. Amazingly, we had a group
all the way from Jacksonville, Florida. James Rose and his 1978 Jeep, and
son Logan Rose with his 1995 extremely modified Ford Mustang shared their
love of cars and brought their whole family and friends. Although I
apologized to them about the inclimate weather, they were all smiles and
said they knew what they were getting into, and had a blast, and have plans
on returning to other Confetti shows. Shirley Shields and her convincing
nature dragged eight Panhandle Ponies members to come, and stole the show
with an impressive array of flawless Mustangs. Tim Price finally won the
big one, and rightfully so with his 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1. Grandpa Ken
Starling, with his 1955 ford Club Sedan, brought along his grandson to his
first car show. Curtis Starling, a 16 year old from Vian, Oklahoma, is a
junior at Vian High School, and plans on becoming a "Gator" after he
graduates. I hope he didn't see Richie Broadway's pickup truck, which is a
Florida State University shrine.
Confetti Bob was honored to see an old and dear friend that drove 300
miles from Winter Haven, Florida just to come to our show. Dave Garseau and
his wife Beverly have known Confetti Bob for over 12 years from past car
shows that they both entered in. We were saddened by the news that Dave is
in poor heath, but as he said to Bob, " I am not staying home to die." He,
too, plans on coming back to later shows in the season. Look for his
beautiful Americana 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, and wish him well.
Puppy love was all abloom here at Thomasville. Mikey George took one look
at Brittany Smith, and all he saw was sunshine. He helped Confetti Bob pick
her as being our Miss Confetti for the day, and was ALL smiles when we took
a few photos of the couple. He did not seem to mind the age difference, or
the fact that she was already spoken for. Brittany was a terrific sport
about it, and accepted the title of "Miss Confetti." Needless to say, our
"Best Kid" award was shared by pals Mikey and Triston Engram. Our special
honorary end of the show award went out to Julie Weichman, who went along
with the Jacksonville Clan. Thanks for coming, Julie! We will be sending
out our fall and winter schedule both with snail mail and e-mail. If you
want to be on our mailing list, let us know. So far, our next stop is a new
place this fall right on the Riverfront at Chattahoochee, Florida. Keep
checking our web page if there are any changes. Hope you all have a safe and
blessed summer, and try to keep dry!
