Tallahassee, FL (May 27, 2006)
We always hold a special place in our hearts for the men and women that have served our country for the freedom that we enjoy. Memorial Day isn't just the unofficial weekend of summer, but a recognition for the members of the armed services past and present. We took advantage of that thought by not only having a moment of silence for out troops overseas, but an honorarium prayer that was officiated by Past Chaplain Robert Cornelius, American Legion Post 200 and 40/8. We will never forget.
This was our first year at the fairgrounds instead of the University parking lot. The potential was there to have an incredible showing. Tim Revell, the owner of Champion and University Chevrolet saw that vision, too, and has vowed to get the whole car dealership organization to participate in next year's event. We hold this car show every year for a charity event, and for the past two years, the Shriners Marzuq Temple of Tallahassee have been the recipients of the fund raising drive. And for five years, the wonderful Lion's Club was on hand to serve food and drinks to our hot participants of the car show. We had quite a few vendors on hand to sell their goods, and one especially: Hot Shots Auto Art with Bob and Linda Collins showed us how great T-shirts are born! Along with our talented Confetti Bob and his camera, Bob and Linda donated all of their pictures for us for you all to enjoy. They will be returning next year, and have officially donated $100.00 to our next year's show for sponsorship. Thank you SO very much. It is nice to meet such fine people along the way that have an interest in car shows like we do.
Another addition to our car show was Dr. Jack Hanbury, auto doctor, on hand to answer any automotive questions for the folks throughout the day. He is a certified AACA concourse judge, and auto affectionado, brought his engine stethoscope, and two eager helper nurses (our Confetti girls Christy and Misty). The cutest part of the day, though was when Daddy Rivers was asking an automotive question, a sweet girl about 5 years old tugged Dr. Jack's apron, and asked so very seriously "Why do we have doctors, Dr. Jack?", He was such a gentleman and answered her question by crouching down and told her doctors are here to help people get better. She was satisfied with his answer, and went on her way. It was a touching moment.
We always have such classic and beautiful vehicles at our show. Today was no exception. Glenn and June Smith debuted their 57 modified Chevy Bel Air after such a devastating crash one year ago. It is as impeccable as it was and even better! Jack Hanbury also showed off his new baby: an all steel bodied 1933 Dodge coupe. What a beautiful vehicle! We were also honored to have an incredibly handsome 1940 metallic gray 60 S Cadillac. Raymond Merritt is a lucky man to be the proud owner of that classic car. Thanks so much for all of you to bring such class to our shows!
We honored Tim Revell with a special accommodation crystal vase trophy for his five years of support in the love of streetrodding. He seemed very touched to receive the honor. He has been a strong advocate, and we love doing the show for him. For the past two years he not only paid for dash plaques, but offered T-shirts for our participants. Thanks, Tim!
Robert Wenzinger from Mobile Alabama and De Royal from Panama City received our Gas Hog award along with a gift of $10.00 each. Dad Charlie Bates with his Pontiac Firebird brought his young supporters all day in the heat, so Kestynn Bates won the Miss Confetti Award, and Kaiden Bates won Best Kid Award. Chris Dahl, our judge had his sister Kim and her husband Roger come all the way from Wisconsin, so we honored them with a special thanks.
We have posted our fall shows, and keep checking, because there may be an additional one in October. Hope you all have a safe summer, and see you in the fall!
